I finally had the opportunity to attend the Dubai races for my 40th Birthday. As a keen follower of fashion and Millinery trends, Dubai has always been the place to be and go on the racing calendar. I have followed fashion on the fields from afar in Dubai for many years. This year I was delighted to not only attend the event but also make hats for some lovely ladies going to the race. To me, Dubai is in a category of its own as one of the most glamorous events for racing fashion in the racing season. For myself I created a glamorous fushia silk percher hat with lace resembling roots from a tree. I trimmed the hat with guipure lace flowers and silk petalled roses. To tie the look together I customized a clutch bag with the same lace used in the hat and flowers.
I jetted off to Dubai still in search of the perfect dress and shoes. A decision was made to enter into the Jaguar Style Stakes as my clients were too shy to go on stage and Noeleen Millinery needed to be represented in some way. Jaguar style judges provide a list of do's and don'ts when it comes to selecting your outfit and I was keen to take on board the judges tips about dress length and "what not to wear". The Jaguar Style Stakes at the Dubai Races are all about sophistication, glamour and spring trends. After a lengthy walk around Dubai Mall the biggest Mall in the World, I found a white knee length dress. It was spot on when it came to the judges criteria. The accessories were to be front and centre. After searching high and low for shoes I decided to rest my weary feet and have a coffee. Shortly afterwards my Husband came back to announce he had found the most perfect pair of fushia pink stiletto shoes. What a relief!! When I saw the shoes it looked like they had been made specifically to match the hat and the added bonus was they were handcrafted too. The hat, the bag, the shoes. The perfect trio! And so it was!

I entered into best hat category and was thrilled to place in the final eight. What an honor it was to be up on stage wearing my own hat design showcasing my own work. This hat is my version of glamorous. Getting into the final 8 for best hat in Dubai and winning the Longines most elegant lady at the Longines International races in Hong Kong in November has made for a remarkable 6 Months.
Here is my round up of best hats and style at the jaguar style stakes 2015.
Modern, Elegant and Glamorous headpieces framing these beautiful ladies faces. These women looked particularly feminine in their race wear attire. The green teal ensemble was one of my overall favourites.
These Avante Garde Hats stood out in the crowd in a good way.
It wasn't all about Spring, chic black racing hats and headwear were represented.
I do love the look of this sculptural Jinsin orange and blue hat. I like to use jinsin in my own work to create sculptural headwear. This material (fine bamboo) really is in a league of its own. Some spectacular headpieces can be created using jinsin, one of my favorites materials to use.
This gorgeous lady told me she sketched out her own design and had a milliner create the hat for her. This really is a statement piece. Another big favorite of mine.

The winner of Most Elegant Lady flew all the way in from Australia for the event.
All the fashionistas lining up for Best Dressed Lady.
Congratulations to fellow Irish Woman Mary Behan for winning best dressed lady looking very classy in her straw braid hat.

I can't believe I never even made it to the Kylie show afterwards, with a sick Husband in toe and after being on my feet in stilettos all day it was time to head back to the hotel a happy camper.
What a memorable experience I had in the great city of Dubai, one I will never forget.
Stay tuned for triple crown fashion on the fields. Starting off with Kentucky Derby, Preakness in Maryland and lastly Belmont Races in New York. The style is so different on every continent when it comes to Millinery choices. I can't wait to see what is on display this year. Hats have really become wearable art and Women are showing their own signature style in what they choose. You can tell a lot about a Woman by the hat she wears, just like you can tell a lot a man by the shoes he wears : )
Have a great week.
