Every so often, a piece of felt decides it would rather be sculpture, and this hat is what happened when I let it. It sweeps up from the side of the face to a fine point, then folds and turns back on itself, as if caught in a sudden gust of wind and rather enjoying it.
The soft grey marl merino wool has a lovely depth up close, I’ve edged it in black velvet ribbon to draw every curve as cleanly as a stroke of ink. It’s the sort of contrast that needs very little help from anything else, so I’d keep the outfit simple and let the hat do the talking.
It has been handformed, stiffened, moulded and sewn entirely by hand, and finished with a silk lining. It sits on a headband, so it stays exactly where you put it, whether that’s the races, a wedding or any occasion that deserves a proper entrance.
